South Atlanta Pulmonary Rehabilitation program is a comprehensive program designed to help individuals understand their pulmonary disease, aid in the cessation of smoking, increase exercise tolerance, and develop healthy behaviors to improve their quality of life. Pulmonary rehabilitation provides multidisciplinary training to improve the patient's ability to manage and cope with progressive dyspnea. The program includes breathing exercises, aerobic and strength training exercises, symptom management training, energy conservation and panic control techniques.

Program Goal

  • Reduce patient's shortness of breath and the anxiety it brings
  • Increase exercise tolerance and ability to perform normal daily activities
  • Increase patient's understanding of their particular lung disorder
  • Educate patients on the proper use of respiratory medications
  • Teach Patients to master proper use of respiratory medications
  • Teach Patients to master proper breathing techniques
  • Reduce the possibility of hospitalizations
  • Instruct and motivate patients to start and maintain a home exercise program
  • Promote self-reliance and independence

Although our Pulmonary Rehabilitation program efforts are often focused on patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(COPD). Other conditions appropriate for this process include, but are not limited to, patients with asthma, pulmonary fibrosis, interstitial diseases, bronchiectasis, cystic fibrosis, chest wall diseases, neuromuscular disorders and before and after lung surgery for transplantation, volume reduction or cancer.
